Caller ID Database
Caller IDs are updated by telephone service providers and maintained by the National Caller ID CNAM (Calling NAMe or Caller Name Delivery) Database. Once your phone number is ported into our system, your caller ID is set up by submitting a request to this database.
While we take steps to set up accurate caller IDs, it's crucial to note that not all phone service providers follow the same standards. Some carriers, especially cellphone providers, don't consistently check the CNAM database, as there is no overarching regulatory body governing its use.
Carriers often maintain separate databases by utilizing various sources such as old records or internet searches. This practice can lead to Caller ID information being varied, outdated, or missing. For this reason, your Caller ID can display inconsistently and be a bit challenging to control.
How do I check & manage my Caller ID?
You can look up your number and see how your Caller ID is currently being displayed by visiting https://calleridtest.com.
If you would like to update your Caller ID, contact our support team at help@getkontak.com with the phone number and updated Caller ID information you would like displayed.
Note: Your Caller ID must be limited to 15 characters including spaces. Additionally, Caller ID requests can take from 5 to 7 business days or longer to be updated across all CNAM providers.
Caller ID and Cell Phones
As mentioned previously, most cellular providers do not support Caller ID and strip a number of its Caller ID before connecting the call. Smartphones try to make up for this dilemma by searching through their own files to see if they can find a name or company that matches the incoming phone number.
Testing Caller ID Accuracy
- Making test calls to various numbers may reveal different results. The caller ID might display your location information (city and state - which is normal), or an old business name associated with the number.
- For a more comprehensive assessment, consider making test calls to neighbors or acquaintances with landline phones. If the caller ID isn't accurate in these cases, kindly collect their numbers and send them over through our help desk. We will escalate the matter with our vendor.
